2000  Cardinals rookie Keith McDonald hits a HR in the 2nd inning and becomes only the second player in MLB history to homer in his first 2 at bats (Bob Nieman in 1951) – he also homered for his 3rd hit of the season – went 0-2 next season ending his career with 3 hits, 3 HRs, 9 at bats and 5 RBI
1999  Rookie Chris Singleton of White Sox hits for the cycle – 1st rookie since 1985, and only 16th since 1900, he went 5 for 6
1990  Andy Hawkins of NYY pitches 12 innings and loses to the Twins giving up only 6 hits, his previous start on July 1 he no hit the White Sox and lost 4-0
1986  Bob Horner of Atlanta is the 11th player in MLB history to hit 4 HRs in a game, but they lost to Expos – only 2nd player to hit 4 in a losing effort (Ed Delahanty 7/13/1896)
1983  AL wins 1st All-Star game since 1971
1980  Steve Carlton gets 7 K’s against Cardinals bringing his total to 2,836 – most by a left hander (Mickey Lolich had 2,832)
1976  Houston’s J.R. Richards beats Mets 1-0 despite giving up 10 walks
1970  In a double header at Wrigley, Ron Santo hits a 2 run HR in the 1st game for a 3-2 win, in the 2nd game he has 8 RBI for a 14-2 win
1966  Orioles Boog Powell ties AL record with 11 RBI in a double header
1962  Maris and Mantle hit back to back HRs vs. Twins – 3rd time in 4 games they have done so
1957  Althea Gibson becomes the 1st black tennis player to win Wimbledon
1956  The Cy Young Award is inaugurated
1933  The American League wins baseball’s first All-Star game
