1995  Super Bowl XXIX won by 49ers as they beat San Diego 49-26 – 5th title for 49ers – Steve Young MVP – threw 325 yards and 6 TDs also rushed for 49 yards
1989  The game winning RBI stat was dropped from official use after 9 years – NY Mets Keith Hernandez was the leader at 129
1984  1st NBA slam dunk contest won by Larry Nance
1980  Norm Nixon of LA Lakers plays 64 minutes in a 4 OT loss to Cleveland 154-153 – record broken by Dale Ellis in 1989 with 69 minutes in 5 OTs
