1961  The entire U.S. figure skating team dies in a plane crash
1936  Sonja Henie wins her 3rd consecutive gold medal in figure skating at the Olympics
1932  U.S. bobsled team member Eddie Eagan becomes the only athlete to win a gold medal in both the Winter and Summer Olympic games (boxing 1920)
