1982  Free agent Reggie Jackson leaves the NYY for a 4 year deal with the California Angels for $1 million per year
1976  Robin Roberts and Bob Lemon elected to the Hall of Fame - Roberts 286 wins, 3.41 ERA, 6 consecutive 20 win seasons - Lemon 207 wins, 3.23 ERA, six 20 win seasons in 13 year career
1968  Milwaukee and Phoenix are awarded NBA franchises
1929  The NYY announce that they will begin wearing numbers on the back of their uniforms - the first team to do so - the numbers first used were the field position of the individual player
